RADIO: TONEY CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES STATEWIDE RADIO AD “LABS”
FOND DU LAC, WI – Eric Toney’s campaign launched its first statewide radio ad buy of the cycle playing on radio stations across the state. “Labs” lays out the systemic failure of leadership from Josh Kaul’s at the Department of Justice, as Wisconsin’s crime labs see historic delays under his watch – delaying justice for victims. The 60-second ad reads:
We depend on Wisconsin’s crime labs to help deliver justice. But a growing backlog means evidence waits, cases stall, criminals are on streets longer, and justice is denied for victims.
Eight years ago Attorney General Josh Kaul promised to fix the backlog, but evidence testing times have increased sixty- one percent on his watch.
And even with increases in funding – Josh Kaul still can’t get the job done.
Then, Kaul delayed releasing the numbers and tried to sweep his failures under the rug.
Eight years of Josh Kaul. Eight years of broken promises.

“Labs” highlights the public record of Kaul’s broken promises as AG. DOJ’s own crime lab reports show average DNA turnaround rose 61 percent under Kaul, from 80 days in 2018 to 129 days in 2024 (2018, 2024). Over the same years, the labs handled fewer cases and got more money. The nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau found the last three state budgets added $1.3 million and 10.4 positions for the labs (LAB Report 24-6). Kaul has also delayed the data. The 2024 report didn’t come out until December 2025, and the 2025 report still hasn’t been released. Previous reports were released every April.
