Berit Beck’s Parents Call on AG Kaul to Condemn Ad Exploiting Their Daughter’s Murder

Family says they were never contacted before DAGA put daughter’s case in a political ad

FOND DU LAC, WI – David and Diane Beck, the parents of Berit Beck, called on Attorney General Josh Kaul to condemn a Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) ad that uses the 1990 abduction and murder of their daughter to attack Eric Toney. Nobody behind the ad contacted the Beck family before putting their daughter’s case on the air. Diane Beck, mother of Berit Beck, released the following statement:

“Seeing my daughter’s story used in a political ad without our consent is disgusting. Our family’s worst nightmare is not a prop for anyone’s campaign. Eric Toney fought for us when it mattered, and he’s a big reason we finally got justice. By dragging this back onto the airwaves, Josh Kaul and his allies have torn open wounds our family has spent years trying to heal. Josh Kaul should condemn this ad, and the group behind it should take it down today.”

On July 17, 1990, 18-year-old Berit Beck of Sturtevant disappeared while driving through Fond du Lac on her way to a work training in Appleton. The murder case went unsolved for nearly 24 years until 2014, In March 2015, Toney’s office charged Brantner with first-degree murder and drug related charges stemming from his arrest. Brantner was  convicted of the drug related charges at trial. In February 2018, the Beck family supported a resolution convicting Brantner of second degree reckless homicide and Brantner remains in prison today. The Beck family said publicly, “We support this outcome.”
